About TAFA

TAFA OBJECTIVES

TAFA has two primary objectives:

  • Introduction of an alternative contact sport to provide opportunities for Tongan youth who may have elite sporting potential but also have body shapes inappropriate for Rugby codes;

  • Develop quality community development programs that harness the immense motivating power that sport can have over Pacific communities. These include academic scholarships, health programs, English language development, integration of women and disabled persons, primary school health and fitness, youth leadership etc;

TAFA STRUCTURE

TAFA consists of 2 distinct but related bodies:

TAFA-Tonga has responsibility for operational development of the sport and related community development programs, and facilitation of TAFA's relationship with Tongan partners such as the Tongan Amateur Sports Association and National Olympic Committee (TASANOC) and the Tonga National Youth Congress (TNYC). TAFA-Tonga is administered by a committee with the following key positions;

  • President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • AYAD Development Officer
  • Local DevelopmentOfficer
  • National Coach

TAFA–Australia provides administrative support to TAFA–Tonga and facilitates TAFA's relationship with Australian partners such as AUSAID, AFL, Australian Sports Commission, Tongan expatriate community in Australia etc. TAFA -Aust is administered by a board with the following members;

  • Scholarship Manager
  • Fundraising Manager
  • Boot Orphanage Manager
