The PFL Boot Orphanage is one of TAFA's proudest achievements. It is a fantastic concept formed on the noblest of principles - recycling and sharing with those less fortunate. ...and the best thing is that it works!
- Kids kick goals in your old boots;
- They run around in your old jumpers and socks;
- The game spreads to a new country;
- Parents want their kids involved in Aussie Rules; and
- TAFA gains valuable community support.
Important things you need to know about becoming a PFL Boot Orphanage Agent:
- When you first start it may take up a bit of your time. It is all about relationships, and these need to be built if you don't already have them. Visit your local club or league, explain the program to them quickly and give them an easy way to donate their boots. Agents that sit at home waiting for the phone to ring don't tend to get many calls.
- We need more than boots. We are trying to set up an entirely new sport and can use any equipment in reasonable condition. We are especially looking for footies and jumpers. We even take equipment for other sports. TAFA believes that all sports make positive contributions to the Tongan community, and we are always happy to pass on equipment for other sports if we can't use it.
- Convincing sportsmen to donate unused sporting equipment to kids a less affluent country is actually not very difficult. People believe in the PFL Boot Orphanage instantly. They will listen while you explain the concept and they will support your efforts.
- TAFA will wear any shipping costs within Australia you are unable to cover. Your efforts and time are more than enough; so don't go stealing from your Christmas Fund. PFL will cover the cost from Australia to Tonga so all you really need to do is get the gear to Sydney.

- Send us an email to tafa@tafa.to and let us know you are on board. We will list you on the website as a point of contact and connect you into our network.
- Download our poster, or design your own for your specific circumstances. These are intended to catch people's attention, explain the concept and make it easy for individuals to donate to the orphanage.
- Enlist the support of a larger organisation. Visit a club or league and explain the concept. Perhaps leave a plastic garbage bin in the change rooms under a poster. Let them know you will come and collect their donations in a few weeks.
- Be inventive and try different approaches applicable to your own environment. Perhaps advertise within other institutions you may be involved with - Scouts, Rotary, your work or other clubs etc.
- Send us an email when you get your first shipment. We will tell you how to get them to us, and tell everyone that you are a legend and that you have done a great thing!
