2006 TAFA PTH Scholarship - Plan

Following on from the success of the 2005 TAFA PTH scholarship TAFA is pleased to announce the following details of the 2006 TAFA PTH Scholarship. In 2006 TAFA hopes to:
  • Formalise TAFA’s partnership with the Tongan Association of South Australia Inc. (TASA);

  • Develop more comprehensive student selection and briefing processes;

  • Develop separate junior and senior scholarship programs as follows:

    • Junior - cultural immersion, English language development and accurate assessment of potential. Integrated within a Tongan host-family from within the sponsoring Tongan expatriate community;

    • Senior – Development of elite sporting talent based on assessments of completed junior scholarships. Conducted at a boarding school, and supported by a host-family from within the sponsoring Tongan expatriate community.

  • Continue to focus on applicants with demonstrated English language skills, sporting and/or academic potential, commitment to the development of Australian Football in Tonga; and willingness to give more than they take.

If sufficient funding can be identified the 2006 TAFA PTH Scholarship will proceed as follows:
  • Major Sponsor - Pacific Timber and Hardware (PTH), Tonga;

  • One Student commencing in Jan 06, selection to be announced approximately 20 Jan 06;

  • Accommodation - Hosted within a Tongan expatriate family of Tonga Association of South Australia (TASA), Adelaide;

  • Age 14 – 17yo;

  • Duration – 6 months only (with an option of a further 6 months if funding becomes identified

  • School – As identified by The Tongan Association of South Australia, Inc. Schooling to commence on 30 Jan 06;
